CUET Suspends 11 Students for Ragging Incident
The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has suspended 11 students from all academic activities for six months due to their involvement in ragging junior students. The suspended individuals are all from the Civil Engineering Department of the 2022-23 academic session.
The decision was made during the 278th meeting of the university's Students’ Discipline Committee on Wednesday, December 11. A notice signed by the committee’s member secretary and Director of the Directorate of Student Welfare, Md. Mahbubul Alam, confirmed the disciplinary action.
According to the notice, on November 5, around 10:30 PM, several students of the 2023-24 academic session (23rd batch) reported being harassed outside the university’s main gate. Following the allegations, a committee was formed to investigate the matter. The investigation found evidence against the 11 students, leading to the disciplinary measures.
The notice further stated that the suspended students are prohibited from staying in any university residential halls during the suspension period. However, they may appeal the decision to the Chairman of the Academic Council within 15 days if they wish.
